On 3 April 2025, the ICMPD delegation concluded its three-day visit to Kyiv.
In the course of the visit, Radim Žák, Head of EECA region, and Violeta Wagner, EECA Regional Portfolio Manager, held meetings with leadership and representatives of Ukraine's State Migration Service, State Border Guard Service, State Customs Service, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Justice, as well as EUAM, IOM, and UNHCR.
ICMPD provided updates related to ongoing projects in the area of migration and border management and outlined the plans for the future. The parties appreciated the ongoing cooperation within the EU-funded EU4IBM-Resilience project, focused on Integrated Border Management in Ukraine, and the Czech- and German-funded projects providing assistance to migration and consular services, as well as to Ukrainians displaced in Germany, Czechia, and Poland. The work of the established Ukrainian Consultations Centres (UCCs) in these countries, as well as the call centre operated at the Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw, is highly relevant and welcome, also supported by the authorities of the host country.
As agreed with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of National Unity, Mr. Oleksiy Chernyshov with whom a Memorandum on Cooperation was signed in the course of the meeting, the existing UCCs and synergies with these represent a great potential for further cooperation in jointly establishing Unity Hubs in countries hosting substantial numbers of externally displaced Ukrainians, such as Czechia, Poland and Germany, where ICMPD is already present, but also in Spain, Italy and Romania and other countries gradually gaining relevance.
